The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari is back on Twitter after 10 months of absence from the micro-blogging service. The last post of Buhari was on June 1, 2021 after which he banned Twitter from operating in the country, after the deletion of his obnoxious tweet.
The ban was lifted in January 2022, but the president refused to return to Twitter even when many of his aides had done so. Buhari chose Eid-el Fitri celebration to launch back to Twitter when he tweeted series of Sallah messages to Nigerians. Buhari wrote: “As we celebrate #EidMubarak with joy amidst friends & family members, we’re fully conscious that many families are in a state of anxiety on account of the many captives held by terrorists against their will, including those taken away after the tragic #AbujaKadunaRail bombing. “Rescuing the abducted victims is a delicate situation that requires wisdom, caution and also patience. Any rescue operation that results in the death of any hostage cannot be deemed a success. The government doesn’t want this kind of tragic outcome.”
