All is set for the Federal Government of Nigeria to deploy 3,700 teachers to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and all the States across the country.
This was made known by Mr Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Mr Hamid who monitored the FTS Computer Based Test (CBT) examination which was conducted in Abuja on Monday said out of 14,729 candidates that sat for the exam only 3,700 candidate, that implies 100 candidates that are able to meet up with the states cut off Mark will be picked for the programme.
According to Mr Hamid Bobboyi, “As far as public schools are concerned, we have problem in terms of numbers that can adequately meet the population that we have.
“With about 1.4 million teachers in the system, we need more teachers to cater for the over 42 million pupils we have.” He said.
Mr Hamid also added, “Some states refused to absorb such teachers and as such, we urge them to do so as an internship scheme.
“What happens later, depends on the state where they serve.
“After verification exercise, UBEC will ascertain the authenticity of their certificates before training commences for them,” He said.
The examination at the Computer Based Test (CBT) centres of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at Kogo and Bwari centres was closely monitored by Mr Hamid Bobboyi. The exam which was conducted in 74 approved JAMB centres across the country is an effort by the Federal Government of Nigeria to bridge the gap in the education sector. Mr Hamid added.
