FCT Police Raise Alarm Over Vandalism, Urge Residents to Report Suspects

SP Josephine Adeh

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has warned residents about the dangers of streetlight vandalism.

The warning comes as the government continues efforts to provide essential services across the territory. However, the destruction of public infrastructure threatens residents’ safety and security.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, residents must remain alert and report suspicious activities to the Police.

She said: “While the government continues to make efforts to provide essential amenities for the benefit of residents, it is unfortunate that some individuals engage in the deliberate vandalism of these public installations. We therefore urge residents of the FCT to promptly report any suspicious activities or acts of vandalism to the Police.

The destruction of streetlight infrastructure not only undermines public safety but also creates poorly lit areas that can affect effective police operations and potentially expose residents to increased security risks.”

The Police explained that damaged streetlights can leave roads and public spaces poorly illuminated.

Such areas may create security challenges for residents and make police operations more difficult.

Streetlights also help improve visibility for motorists, pedestrians and security patrols. Their destruction can therefore affect movement and safety, especially at night.

The Command is calling on residents to protect public infrastructure and cooperate with security agencies. Anyone who notices vandalism or suspicious activities should report them immediately.

Residents can contact the FCT Police Command through the following emergency numbers:

08032003913 or 0806 158 1938
