The Onigbesi of Igbesi Land, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, has died days after his rescue from kidnappers.
The monarch reportedly passed away in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness.
His death has left the Igbesi community and security personnel who helped rescue him mourning.
National President of Omo Ibile Igbomina, Bisi Fakayode, announced the monarch’s death on Saturday.
The king’s son, Prince Olasunkanmi, also confirmed the sad development.
“Yes, the news is true. He died after a brief illness following his release. We took him to the hospital, hoping he would survive, but he died there very early this morning.”
The monarch was rescued after being abducted in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Security Watch, Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair, also paid tribute to the late monarch.
“With deep sorrow, we received the news of the passing of Oba Onigbesi of Igbesi.
“We have lost a committed son of Igbesi and a revered monarch.
“It is indeed saddening that despite our efforts to save his life, it ended in futility.”
Zubair said the monarch appeared weak after his rescue.
“We strongly suspect that the late Oba Oyinloye died from the trauma he suffered during his abduction.
“As a matter of fact, he looked too feeble after the rescue. We had wished and prayed that he would be alive.
“Our only solace is that he was rescued, and that he passed on in the hands of his loved ones.”
Zubair prayed for the peaceful repose of the monarch and strength for his family.
