A touching moment unfolded in Abuja as police officers gathered to celebrate a milestone. Inspector-General Olatunji Disu called for unity among the force.
He urged officers to remember colleagues who never made it this far, their sacrifice, he said, must never be forgotten.
This IGP Disu Course 19 anniversary brought together serving and retired officers alike they marked 30 years since their enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force.
The 1996 and 1998 set used the moment to reflect deeply they looked back on their journey, their struggles, and their lasting legacy.
Disu addressed the officers with emotional and powerful words, he asked them to look around and truly see each other.
He spoke about the different paths officers had taken, some rose to lead others, while some served quietly in less visible roles.
According to Disu, every single officer played a part, he said they all carried “the fire” into every uniform and every decision.
He reminded them that 30 years means more than time passing, It proves what was built together has truly endured.
IGP Disu tribute also included a solemn moment of remembrance, he asked officers to honor colleagues who died in the line of duty.
He spoke about those no longer present physically.
“This may be gone from our sight, but they are not gone from our hearts,” he said.
He called on officers to carry their memory forward. Their legacy, he said, should continue to shape the force they built.
Disu closed with a call for quiet reflection. “Let us bow our head and hold them close,” he said.
Beyond remembrance, the IGP stressed the importance of mentorship, he urged senior officers to guide younger ones, even after retirement.
