The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has honoured the memory of former IGP Solomon Arase.
Disu described Arase as more than a respected police officer, calling him a mentor, friend and brother.
He spoke during a memorial lecture held in honour of the late police chief.
The IGP said remembering Arase was both an official duty and a deeply personal experience.
According to Disu, he had the opportunity to know Arase closely and learn from his experience.
He praised the late officer for his intelligence, professionalism and strong commitment to improving policing.
“Yet, what made him particularly remarkable was that his brilliance was never detached from humanity,” Disu said.
He explained that Arase understood policing as a duty centred on protecting people and respecting their dignity.
Disu also highlighted Arase’s belief in the ability of the Nigeria Police Force to improve.
“He was also a man who believed strongly in the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force to evolve.”
The IGP said Arase’s work in police reform and professional development remains part of his lasting legacy.
He also remembered Arase as approachable, thoughtful and generous with his knowledge.
“Those of us who had the privilege of sharing moments with him will remember not only the IGP, but the mentor, the counsellor, the gentleman and the friend.”
Few Disu described Arase’s death as a major loss to the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria.
He said the memorial should inspire officers to continue the values that guided Arase’s service.
The IGP urged Nigerians to remember the late police chief through his contributions and example.
“Your voice may have fallen silent, but your ideas, your examples, and your impact continue to speak.”
Disu prayed that Arase’s memory would remain a blessing and his legacy would inspire future officers.
