Ogogo’s Burial: Celebrities Gather in Ilaro for Veteran Actor’s Final Farewell

The Yoruba movie industry has gathered in Ilaro to honour veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Family members, colleagues, celebrities and fans assembled at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground for his burial prayer.

Among those spotted at the ceremony were celebrities Adesanya Toyosi and Bisi Bidapoobe.

The gathering followed the death of the respected actor at age 66 on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

Ogogo’s burial was scheduled for Monday, August 24, in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko had earlier announced the funeral arrangements through a statement shared on Instagram.

He said the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro for a lying-in-state ceremony.

“His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State today where the lying-in-state ceremony will take place tomorrow.”

The burial announcement stated that the prayer would hold at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground.

The ceremony was scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., according to the Ilaro Muslim Community.

Ogogo’s death came shortly after his daughters appealed for medical support during his cancer battle.

His daughter, Kaira, had revealed that doctors could no longer continue his chemotherapy because of his condition.

The actor remained a major figure in Yoruba-language cinema throughout his long career.

His performances earned him recognition among colleagues, fans and lovers of Nigerian movies.
