Governor Monday Okpebholo has sent a strong warning to criminals and anyone planning to use violence to disrupt peace in Edo State.
The governor declared that any building linked to cultism or criminal activities would be demolished without delay.
The latest warning comes shortly after the governor condemned the recent attack on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He described the incident as unfortunate and insisted that Edo would not be allowed to slide into political violence under his administration.
Speaking during an interview with journalist Seun Okinbaloye, Okpebholo made it clear that his government would continue taking decisive action against criminal elements.
Condemning the attack on ADC members, the governor sympathised with those affected.
However, he warned that individuals taking advantage of the state’s peaceful atmosphere to commit violence would face the full weight of the law.
According to him, maintaining law and order remains a constitutional responsibility that cannot be ignored.
Therefore, his administration will continue working with security agencies to prevent further violence across the state.
“As the chief security officer of Edo, I will not stand by and allow the state to be turned into a theatre of conflict in the name of political rivalry,” the governor said.
Furthermore, Okpebholo stressed that criminal hideouts would not be tolerated, regardless of where they are located. He warned that buildings used for cult activities would be demolished immediately once credible evidence links them to crime.
In his words, “try me go to a hotel or your house and have a meeting as a cultist, I will go there and demolish it, I won’t even waste one minute.”
Before becoming governor, Monday Okpebholo built his career in business before entering politics under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In addition, he represented Edo Central Senatorial District before contesting and winning the 2024 governorship election.
He officially assumed office in November 2024 after securing victory at the polls. Since then, his administration has focused on improving road infrastructure, strengthening healthcare, expanding educational opportunities, empowering young people and attracting new investments into Edo State.
However, security has remained one of the government’s biggest priorities. Consequently, several policies have been introduced to confront kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes affecting residents.
The administration has also faced criticism from political opponents over some appointments and decisions. Nevertheless, the governor maintains that protecting lives and property will continue to guide his policies.
