Activist Livinus Nwosu Speaks Out After DSS Custody Release

Activist Livinus Nwosu has broken his silence following his reported release from detention.

Nwosu alleged that he was questioned over his relationship with social media personalities VeryDarkMan (VDM) and Tunde Ednut, as well as his involvement in public awareness campaigns focused on national issues.

The activist also claimed that he received a disturbing warning while at a DSS facility. Despite the experience, however, he insisted that he would continue speaking about issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

The development comes days after concerns were raised online regarding Nwosu’s reported detention. Social media commentator VeryDarkMan had earlier alerted the public, claiming the activist was picked up by armed men over activities linked to voter education and civic awareness.

Speaking after his release, Nwosu said investigators questioned him about several matters during his stay in custody.

According to him, he was asked how he obtained the phone numbers of VeryDarkMan and popular blogger Tunde Ednut.

Furthermore, he claimed officials questioned whether VeryDarkMan directed him to carry out his “Renewed Mind Outreach” campaign.

The campaign reportedly focused on creating awareness about insecurity and ongoing killings in some parts of Nigeria.

In addition, Nwosu alleged that he was informed that some of his activities could be interpreted as attempts to incite the public against the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, the activist said one particular encounter during his detention left a lasting impression on him.

According to Nwosu, a woman at the DSS office allegedly warned him about the consequences of continuing his advocacy efforts.

He recalled the conversation in his own words.

“I met a woman at the DSS office and she told me that if they pick me again, I will disappear. She said if I continue evangelising and showing the public what is happening, it will not be easy for me next time.”

The activist repeated the allegation while discussing his experience after regaining freedom. He further stated:

“I met a woman at the DSS office and she told me that if they pick me again, i will disappear, that if I continue evangelising and showing the public about what is happening…. that it will not be easy for me the next time…”

However, despite the alleged warning, Nwosu maintained that he remains committed to his advocacy activities.

According to him, his work focuses on informing citizens about governance, voter participation, and issues affecting communities across the country.

Moreover, he said public awareness remains important in strengthening civic responsibility and democratic participation.

The controversy has also reignited discussions about the role of activists and civic educators in society.

Meanwhile, no official statement addressing Nwosu’s specific allegations was included in the information available at the time of this report.

Therefore, the claims remain his account of events following his reported detention and release.
