Residents of Osogbo were thrown into panic on Wednesday night after gunmen attacked a vehicle carrying a local political leader, and leaving him injured
The victim, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State. He was reportedly shot during a targeted attack near the MDS area of the state capital.
The incident has generated concern across the community because it happened in a busy part of the city and involved a well-known political figure. Meanwhile, police have launched a full-scale operation to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
According to reports, the incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. when suspected gunmen allegedly trailed a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and several other occupants.
Witnesses said the attackers opened fire on the vehicle shortly after catching up with it. The sound of gunshots reportedly caused fear among residents living around the area.
However, the occupants of the vehicle managed to escape from the scene.
They reportedly drove to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters, where they sought protection before the attackers fled.
During the attack, Ajibola sustained injuries and was immediately rushed for medical attention.
He was later taken to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital in Osogbo for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has condemned the attack.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, called for a detailed investigation.
He urged security agencies to ensure that everyone connected to the incident is identified and brought before the law.

Furthermore, the Osun State Police Command confirmed that investigations had already commenced.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.
According to him, security personnel evacuated the victim and ensured he received urgent medical care.
Moreover, tactical teams were deployed across strategic locations to track down the suspects.
Police also confirmed that evidence recovered from the scene has been collected for examination.
The materials are currently being subjected to forensic analysis as investigators work to establish what happened.
Meanwhile, authorities disclosed that Ajibola remains in stable condition and is responding positively to treatment.
Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
He directed officers to identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals connected to the attack.
Therefore, security operatives are continuing their search for clues that could lead to arrests.
