Ogun Police Foil Suspected One-Chance Operation, Recover Stolen iPhone 12 Pro

A routine trip after a family celebration ended in a frightening ordeal for three women in Ogun State.

The suspects were apprehended shortly after a distress call was made by members of the public. Moreover, a stolen iPhone 12 Pro belonging to one of the victims was successfully recovered during the operation.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the incident occurred after a female victim and her two sisters attended a wedding anniversary ceremony in the Somorin area. They reportedly boarded a Nissan Micra taxi painted in Ogun State colours and intended to travel toward NNPC Kuto before continuing their journey to Lagos.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He explained that the journey suddenly changed when the vehicle allegedly diverted from its agreed route.

Furthermore, the passengers reportedly became alarmed when the occupants of the vehicle started acting aggressively. Shortly afterward, they were allegedly forced out of the vehicle before reaching their destination.

After getting out of the car, one of the women discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro was missing. Consequently, a distress report was immediately raised, prompting a rapid response from police officers attached to the Obantoko Division.

Babaseyi said:

“Upon receiving the distress alert, operatives of Obantoko Division, in collaboration with members of the public, swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak. The timely intervention of the police prevented a possible mob action by agitated members of the public.”

The suspects were arrested on May 28, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m. In addition, the stolen phone was recovered during the operation.

Police investigations later revealed more details about the incident. According to authorities:

“The stolen iPhone 12 Pro was recovered from the suspects, while the alleged operational vehicle reportedly fled the scene. Preliminary investigation further revealed that the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation. Photographs of the suspects were taken for record purposes, and the recovered exhibit was released to the owner on bond.”

Meanwhile, efforts are expected to continue in order to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the case, especially those who escaped with the vehicle.

The latest Ogun One-Chance Robbery arrest highlights the growing importance of quick reporting and community cooperation in tackling crime. Furthermore, it serves as a reminder for commuters to remain alert when boarding commercial vehicles.

Investigations continue, residents hope the arrests will send a strong message to criminal groups operating within the state.
