Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the challenge that left De Miguel critically injured.

Police are reportedly investigating the case as possible involuntary manslaughter. They are assessing whether the goalkeeper’s actions went beyond the normal risks associated with competitive football.

The investigation is being considered under Article 142 of the Spanish Penal Code. The law covers cases involving deaths caused by reckless actions.

If investigators establish that the challenge involved serious negligence, Owono could face criminal charges. A conviction for reckless homicide could carry a prison sentence of between one and four years.

However, the investigation does not mean the goalkeeper has been found guilty. Authorities must establish whether his actions amounted to criminal negligence.

Legal experts have also noted that police inquiries can follow deaths that occur outside natural circumstances.

For now, the investigation remains focused on the circumstances of the fatal collision; no conviction has been established against Owono.
