President Bola Tinubu has approved a Federal Executive Council reshuffle, leading to the exit of key cabinet members.
The decision, which was confirmed late Tuesday, is already generating conversations around the direction of the administration’s economic policies.
The shake-up affects two major ministries, including finance and housing. Moreover, replacements have been swiftly announced, signalling an urgent push for continuity in governance.
According to an official memo, Mr. Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa have been asked to step down from their roles. However, the transition has been structured to ensure minimal disruption to government operations.
Edun, who served as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to transfer responsibilities immediately. In addition, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been named as his successor.
The statement clarified the transition process in clear terms.
“He has been directed to hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who is now to take over as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele was formerly a Minister of State in the ministry.”
Meanwhile, changes have also been made in the Housing and Urban Development Ministry. Furthermore, a new nominee has been introduced to take over pending confirmation.
“Also Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD.) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry,” the statement added.

However, until the confirmation process is completed, the current structure will remain temporarily adjusted. Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.
The timeline for this transition has been clearly defined. The memo stated that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday 23rd April, 2026.”
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
In addition, the action was said to have been taken under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing ministers. They were appreciated for their service and commitment during their time in office.
Furthermore, assurances have been given to remaining cabinet members. The administration has made it clear that adjustments may continue where necessary.
