Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Hon. Fuad Atanda-Lawal, has approved a 100 percent salary raise for doctors under the local government, bringing their monthly earnings to N800,000 beginning June 2025.
This development comes just weeks before the end of his administration and reflects a bold commitment to strengthening local healthcare systems.
The raise is the second salary increase within the year, moving doctors’ pay from N400,000 to N800,000.
It also marks a 300 percent rise from the N200,000 salary structure in February 2024.
According to a statement from the council, this significant increase highlights the administration’s deep appreciation for healthcare workers and aims to reduce the loss of skilled professionals to the ongoing Japa syndrome.
It is also designed to retain medical talent and ensure that residents continue to receive top-quality healthcare.
Hon. Atanda-Lawal, while announcing the new development, stated,
“Our administration is not only reconstructing the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Healthcare Centre we’re rebuilding the very foundation of healthcare delivery in Ikoyi-Obalende.
By increasing our doctors’ salaries again, we are reinforcing our belief that a healthy society is a wealthy society.”

This increase coincides with the near completion of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu PHC, which is entering the upper-level construction stage.
Upon completion, the center is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare for thousands of residents within the LCDA.
Moreover, the N800,000 salary structure for doctors places Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA among the few local governments actively investing in healthcare personnel.
This comes on the heels of a similar 100 percent pay rise approved by Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.
Atanda-Lawal stressed that beyond infrastructure, people matter the most.
He explained that the decision was made to secure long-term loyalty from healthcare workers who are often tempted by overseas opportunities.
He added,
“We have only a few weeks left in office, but we remain committed to serving till the very last hour.”
Furthermore, he urged residents to remain supportive of the government’s health-focused goals and encouraged the next administration to carry forward the people-driven legacy already in motion.
