The controversy surrounding the arrest of outspoken social media critic, Verydarkman (VDM), has taken another turn as his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, publicly questioned the silence of human rights advocate and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana.
VDM, known for his blunt takes on societal issues, was recently arrested in Abuja by security operatives.
The situation has drawn concern from his supporters and triggered broader discussions on freedom of expression.
Moreover, a recent claim has linked gospel singer Mercy Chinwo to the case, further intensifying public interest.
However, it is the reaction or lack of respected legal voices that is now under scrutiny.
Deji Adeyanju, a prominent human rights lawyer, expressed his concerns in a Facebook post where he called out Falana’s silence.
He wrote, “Our revered leader and mentor, Femi Falana SAN yet to condemn the arrest of VDM.

Interesting times indeed! When the boy that lead people to attack me under Buhari became a victim under the same Buhari and was arrested, I was the first person to condemn it.”
The post quickly gained traction, sparking a wave of comments from Nigerians demanding transparency and fairness in the case involving Verydarkman.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Falana and VDM have been at opposite ends.
During Bobrisky’s recent legal battle with the EFCC over currency mutilation, an audio was released by VDM accusing Femi Falana, his son Falz, and the EFCC of complicity.
In response, Falana requested a formal apology and public retraction, claiming that the accusations were false and defamatory.
Therefore, the tension between both parties is no longer new, making Falana’s current silence even more significant to observers.
Furthermore, the legal practitioner emphasized the need for consistency in human rights advocacy.
“Justice and freedom of expression should not be selectively defended,” one commenter noted on Adeyanju’s post.
In addition, the allegations pointing toward influential figures in the gospel and legal space have raised questions about the real reasons behind VDM’s detention.
