Portuguesa Eyes Cristiano Ronaldo in Bold 2026 Move

Alex Bourgeois, Portuguesa’s president, has expressed his ambition to sign Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a move that could be a game-changer for the Brazilian club.

With the club striving to attract European football icons, this potential signing would mark a significant achievement.

Bourgeois, speaking to CNN (via TalkSPORT), revealed his intention to pursue Ronaldo in 2026.

“We are behind and we will try for 2026, for the 2026 Paulistão, to bring in a great Portuguese,” he stated.

His vision aligns with Portuguesa’s strategic plan, which aims to create stronger ties between Brazil and Portugal through football.

The Paulista A1 side has been actively working to secure high-profile European talents, having previously attempted to sign Radamel Falcao and Nani.

This latest pursuit of Ronaldo, widely regarded as the greatest Portuguese footballer of all time, demonstrates the club’s ambitious growth strategy.

Moreover, Bourgeois highlighted the broader significance of strengthening connections between Brazil and Portugal.

“What we need, which is part of our strategic plan, is to create a bridge between Brazil and Portugal through Portuguesa,” he explained.

This initiative is expected to attract interest from millions within the Portuguese-Brazilian community.

However, securing Ronaldo’s signature will be a formidable challenge.

The 40-year-old forward is approaching the end of his contract with Al-Nassr, making him eligible for pre-contract negotiations.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Ronaldo might extend his stay in Saudi Arabia, with a potential new contract worth €183 million per year.

Such a deal would reinforce his status as the world’s highest-paid footballer.

Despite the obstacles, Bourgeois remains hopeful, emphasizing the club’s commitment to its ambitious project.

“He’s the greatest Portuguese of all time, he’s the greatest personality in the world today,” he remarked. “Obviously, at some point, we’re going to have to try to talk.”

Furthermore, the club envisions a broader cultural exchange beyond football.

Bourgeois highlighted Portugal’s appeal to Brazilians, citing its wine, food, religion, and beaches.

“So, what we want is to bring all of this to the closest place here in Brazil to create this bridge,” he added.

If Portuguesa succeeds in this bold move, it could elevate the club’s global reputation and inspire other South American teams to think bigger.
