Unizik Addresses Viral Student-Lecturer Clash, Promises Fair Investigation

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (Unizik), has responded to a viral video showing a student physically assaulting a lecturer on campus.

The university has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure justice prevails.

In a statement signed by Njelita Louis O., the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, the institution acknowledged the incident involving Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a 3rd-year student in the Department of History and International Studies.

The statement emphasized that the situation is being taken “very seriously” and urged all concerned parties to remain calm.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a “full-scale, transparent, and unbiased investigation” into the matter.

Furthermore, the university reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline, decorum, and ethical standards.

“The university is committed to upholding discipline and decorum, and we will ensure that appropriate actions and sanctions are taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.

It also stressed that “there is no place for indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behavior within our community.”

Meanwhile, Unizik has assured the public that updates on the investigation will be provided as necessary.

The university is determined to handle the issue promptly to prevent bias and maintain its reputation as an institution that upholds fairness and justice.
