Sokoto State Police Repel Bandit Attack, Recover Two Rocket Launchers

Police in Sokoto State have stopped a suspected bandit attack on Tsabre Village in Isa Local Government Area.

The incident happened around 1am when the attackers reportedly opened fire to frighten residents.

Police responded quickly after receiving a distress call from the community.

The Divisional Police Officer in Isa reportedly mobilised tactical teams to the area.

The teams included the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit.

According to police spokesman DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, officers confronted the bandits during the operation.

A gun battle followed, forcing the attackers to retreat towards a nearby forest.

Police said some of the bandits suffered casualties while escaping into the forest.

Tactical officers later searched the surrounding bushes for weapons and other items.

During the search, they recovered two rocket launchers and two empty AK-47 magazines.

Police also found a keypad Tecno phone without a battery and a torchlight.

Other recovered items included an army jungle hat and a sweater cap.

Five pairs of sandals and a rain jacket were also recovered from the area.

The police said the items were found after officers combed the bushes around Tsabre Village.

The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, praised the officers for their response.

He also commended them for what the command described as bravery during the operation.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting residents and property across Sokoto State.

Police also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities.

The command asked residents to report anyone with gunshot wounds seeking medical treatment.

Such information should be given to the nearest police station, according to the command.

The police, however, said residents should continue working with security agencies to help prevent further attacks.
