A new twist has emerged in the murder case of UNIBEN student Chinenye Promise Nwoye, the suspect has been moved to a different correctional facility.
Kingsley Ogbonnaya faces trial over the 2020 killing, he has now been transferred from Awka Correctional Centre to Ekwulobia.
This UNIBEN student murder suspect transfer follows troubling reports from inside the facility, Ogbonnaya was reportedly found initiating fellow inmates into a cult group.
He was also linked to other disruptive behavior while in custody, these actions ultimately led to his relocation to a different center.
A source close to the case explained how the move has affected proceedings, the transfer has reportedly caused delays in the ongoing trial.
The source revealed that transporting Ogbonnaya has now become more complicated, he must be moved from Ekwulobia back to Awka whenever court dates arise.
“The last time I went to Ekwulobia, I saw him there. He is still there. This movement has stalled the trial in court,” the source said.
According to the source, further misconduct could lead to another transfer, this time, Ogbonnaya could be moved outside Anambra State entirely.
This UNIBEN student murder suspect transfer has since been confirmed by officials, Francis Ekezie, spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service in Anambra, addressed the development.
He explained that the move followed standard administrative procedures, Ekezie assured the public that court appearances would continue as required.
Despite the transfer, officials maintain that justice will still take its course, Ogbonnaya remains in custody as the trial continues to unfold.
