United States President Donald Trump surprised guests at a major press event after joking about seeking another term in office and revealing a red Trump 2028 cap before a packed audience.
The lighthearted remark came despite the U.S. Constitution limiting presidents to two elected terms.
Trump made the remarks on Friday during an annual event held in Washington to celebrate press freedom.
The gathering also marked his first appearance at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after years of staying away from the event during his political career.
Throughout his speech, the U.S. president blended humor with criticism of the media.
He also took playful shots at journalists while addressing the audience.
At one point, Trump surprised everyone by joking about another presidential campaign.
He said:
“To show just how much I care about the press and I want to save your ratings, I’m pleased to announce my intention to, and this is somewhat of a scoop, my intention to run for a fourth term as president of the United States.”

Immediately after making the remark, Trump pulled out a red “Trump 2028” cap and wore it on stage.
The gesture drew loud laughter and applause from many people present.
In addition, the event carried added significance because it had earlier been postponed.
According to reports, the annual gathering was rescheduled after it was suspended in April following an alleged assassination attempt on the president.
Despite the serious background, the atmosphere remained relaxed as Trump continued delivering humorous remarks.
Furthermore, he revisited his long-running criticism of what he often describes as the “fake news media.”
Turning toward journalists, Trump quipped:
“I know it was not easy finding shoes to go along with your bulletproof vest, which many people didn’t want to wear because they’d rather die than look 20 pounds heavier.”
Moreover, the president’s appearance attracted significant attention because it marked a rare return to an event he had previously avoided during much of his political career.
