Tragedy in Edo: Stadium Mast Collapse Kills Driver

A middle-aged driver lost his life on Thursday, February 20, when a mast collapsed at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Edo State.

The fatal incident occurred during a heavy windstorm that preceded a downpour, tragically cutting short the life of a man who was simply carrying out his duties.

The deceased, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was reportedly the driver of a decorator working at the venue.

Witnesses revealed that he had attempted to salvage his boss’s decorating materials when the mast came crashing down.

One of those present at the scene recalled, “We were all gathered at the stadium waiting for the commencement of the praise night when the breeze began.

Unfortunately, the mast fell and k!lled the man instantly.

His head was shattered, and it was a gory sight.”

The event, which was part of activities marking Governor Monday Okpebholo’s 100 days in office, was disrupted by the storm.

In addition to the devastating loss of life, the unfortunate accident forced many attendees to leave the stadium after the rain subsided.

The man’s body has since been transported to the morgue, while authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over safety measures at the stadium, as such incidents highlight the importance of proper infrastructure maintenance to prevent further tragedies.
