Tinubu Targets Retirees With Free Healthcare and Minimum Pension Guarantee

President Bola Tinubu has ordered faster access to free healthcare for low-income retirees under Nigeria’s Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

He has also called for long-awaited pension increases to improve retirees’ living conditions.

The directives aim to provide more support for pensioners facing rising living costs.

Tinubu also wants a minimum pension guarantee to protect the most vulnerable retirees.

The President issued the orders after receiving a briefing from the Director-General of the pension agency.

He stressed the need to improve retiree welfare and ensure older Nigerians can live with dignity.

The free healthcare initiative is designed to help low-income retirees access medical care, Its faster rollout is expected to strengthen social protection for pensioners under the CPS.

The proposed minimum pension guarantee would provide additional support for retirees with limited income.

However, the President’s directives do not mean the benefits have already begun, the healthcare programme and pension changes still require implementation.

Tinubu also directed the Director-General to urgently address the longstanding police pension issue.

He stressed that officers who serve and protect Nigeria deserve a secure retirement.

The briefing also covered plans to protect pension fund assets against inflation and other economic pressures.

These efforts aim to preserve the value of pension savings over time.

Another proposal would allow Nigerians living abroad to make pension contributions in foreign currencies. This could expand access to the pension system for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The President expressed strong support for the proposed reforms, according to the briefing. His administration reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive growth and protection for ordinary Nigerians.
