Speaking at a press conference, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia explained the administration’s position on both incidents.

According to Onyia, the government’s findings showed that the NDC attempted to hold a political rally at the airport without approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

He said the situation led to a confrontation with airport authorities and security personnel.

The government also addressed reports of violence at the NDC secretariat, and it confirmed that one person sustained a gunshot wound and received medical attention.

However, it denied reports of fatalities, adding that police investigations into the incident were ongoing.

The administration dismissed claims that Governor Peter Mbah’s Chief Security Officer supervised the shooting.

According to the government, the officer was attending another public event with the governor at the time.

The government also alleged that some opposition figures were planning to recruit armed thugs to cause unrest ahead of the 2027 elections.

These claims have not been independently verified in the information provided.

The Enugu government NDC incident response also stressed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives, maintaining peace and respecting democratic rights.

It said citizens must remain free to associate and participate peacefully in political activities.

The government maintained that it had no reason to intimidate political opponents, it also expressed confidence in Governor Mbah’s achievements and public support ahead of the 2027 elections.

The administration said political competition was welcome but warned against actions that could threaten peace and security.

Meanwhile, the Enugu government NDC incident investigation remains ongoing, according to the statement.
