Three police officers serving at the Abia State Police Command have been dismissed after being found guilty of extortion and abduction.
Their dismissal was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chinaka, who stated that an orderly room trial was conducted, leading to their removal from the force.
The officers were reportedly involved in abducting unsuspecting victims along the Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway and demanding ransom from their families.
According to reports, the dismissed officers had allegedly hired a minibus and forcefully taken civilians into custody under false pretenses.

They were said to have threatened their victims and coerced them into making financial payments before securing their release.
However, their activities were uncovered after officers from the Abayi Division, Aba, apprehended them.
During their arrest, two civilians were also found alongside the policemen, and an electric baton, assault rifle, and Beretta pistol were recovered.
Meanwhile, the Abia State Police Command has assured the public that disciplinary measures have been implemented to maintain professionalism within the force.
Confirming this, DSP Maureen Chinaka stated, “This action follows the administrative disciplinary measures taken by the command.
Their official accoutrements have been retrieved by the Command’s Provost, and they cease to be members of the force.”

Furthermore, the police emphasized that no officer found engaging in misconduct will be spared from legal consequences.
Therefore, this incident highlights the need for continuous monitoring and strict enforcement of disciplinary actions within the police force.
The authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to ensure public safety.
Moreover, security agencies must intensify efforts to restore public trust, as cases of extortion and abduction by law enforcement officers should never be tolerated.
