According to police, the suspect has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California. He was taken into custody after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement officers at the scene.

Interim Washington, DC Police Chief Jeffery Carroll confirmed that the suspect acted alone. He also stated that the individual had reportedly stayed at the Washington Hilton, where the event was held.

However, authorities noted that no clear motive has been established. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro outlined the charges against him. These include using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.

In addition, a Secret Service officer was injured during the exchange. The officer, who was protected by a ballistic vest, has since been treated and discharged from the hospital.

A spokesperson confirmed that the protective gear “helped us avoid a potential tragedy.”

Meanwhile, FBI agents were deployed to a property linked to the suspect in Torrance, California.

Eyewitness accounts also highlighted the intensity of the moment. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, who was present, said he saw the attacker “clearly on the ground shooting” just steps away.

Furthermore, reports indicated that a police officer quickly pushed Blitzer to safety during the incident.

President Trump later noted that no prior threats had been identified before the event.

The White House Dinner attack has since drawn strong reactions from political leaders and global figures.
