A security operation in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area has led to the arrest of several suspects, following a coordinated surveillance exercise carried out by the Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Task Force (JTF).
The operation, which took many residents by surprise, was conducted across strategic locations in the council area on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Security personnel focused on Igbe Laara and nearby communities as part of efforts to prevent crime and strengthen public safety.
According to officials, the exercise involved surveillance patrols, stop-and-search activities, intelligence gathering, and targeted enforcement operations. Several suspects were arrested during the exercise and are currently undergoing further investigation.
The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ikorodu Division, CSP Akinola Clement, alongside the JTF Commander, Oludare Igbasan. Furthermore, security teams moved against locations identified as criminal hideouts and black spots within the community.
Residents who witnessed the exercise described it as one of the most visible security actions seen in the area in recent times.
Meanwhile, authorities said the move was necessary to deter criminal elements and reassure law-abiding residents.
Although details of those arrested were not immediately released, officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Moreover, intelligence gathered during the operation is expected to support future security measures within the council area.
The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, praised the efforts of security personnel involved in the operation.
He commended the Police and JTF for their dedication to public safety and their continued efforts to preserve peace across the community.
According to the statement, the chairman also urged residents to support security agencies by remaining alert and reporting suspicious activities whenever necessary.

“The safety and security of Igbogbo/Baiyeku remain a shared responsibility. Residents are encouraged to stay security-conscious and support efforts aimed at preserving peace and protecting lives and property.”
In addition, local authorities stressed that cooperation between residents and security agencies remains essential in addressing emerging security challenges. Therefore, community members have been encouraged to provide useful information that could assist law enforcement agencies.
The development comes as security agencies across Lagos State continue to increase surveillance and intelligence-driven operations. Consequently, more attention is being placed on crime prevention rather than reacting after incidents occur.
Security experts have repeatedly noted that routine patrols, intelligence gathering, and community engagement remain key tools in combating crime.
