Peller Arraigned for Driving Without a Number Plate and Obstructing Officers on Duty

Popular TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court following his recent confrontation with police officers along the Lagos Coastal Road.

The social media personality now faces multiple charges after an incident that quickly gained widespread attention online.

The court granted the TikToker bail in the sum of N500,000 after he and his co-defendant appeared before the magistrate.

Peller was arraigned alongside Bello Oladipo on a three-count charge filed by the Lagos State Police Command.

The charges include conspiracy, resisting public officers, obstructing police officers while carrying out their lawful duties, and allegedly threatening as well as recording officers during an official operation.

According to police authorities, the incident happened on July 2 along the Lagos Coastal Road.

The officers reportedly stopped a vehicle allegedly being driven without a number plate.

However, Peller reportedly explained that he had only recently bought the vehicle.

The officers were said to have rejected that explanation and insisted that he accompany them to the police station.

Meanwhile, the situation became tense after the TikToker began recording the interaction on his mobile phone.

The video later circulated across several social media platforms, attracting mixed reactions from Nigerians.

According to the charge sheet presented before the court, both defendants were accused of acting together during the encounter.

One of the charges reads:

“That you Bello Oladipo ‘m’ and Habeeb Hamzat ‘m’ of No. 16, Platinum Road Lekki phase 2, on the 2nd day of July 2026 at about 2000hrs at Coastal Road Lekki, Lagos within the Magisterial district of this Honourable Court, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: Resisting public officers and thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

The second count accuses both men of obstructing police officers while they were carrying out their official responsibilities.

It states:

“That you Bello Oladipo ‘m’ and Habeeb Hamzat ‘m’ of Number 16, Platinum Road, Lekki Phase 2, on the 2nd day of July 2026 at about 2000hrs at Coastal Road Lekki, Lagos within the Magisterial district of this Honourable court did obstruct one ASP Agbede Victor and three other police officers while engaged in the discharge of their constituted duties and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable by Section 117 (1) (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

Furthermore, a third charge relating to allegedly threatening and recording police officers while performing their lawful duties was also presented before the court.

Following the arraignment, the court granted bail to Peller in the sum of N500,000.

His co-defendant was also admitted to bail under conditions determined by the court.

Meanwhile, the case has generated significant public interest because it involves one of Nigeria’s most recognised social media personalities.

As proceedings continue, both the prosecution and defence are expected to present evidence before the court reaches a final decision.
