A major emergency unfolded in Lagos on Friday after a fire broke out at the Bono Energy Terminal in the Apapa area.
The incident sent emergency crews rushing to the fuel storage facility along the Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not confirmed the cause of the fire. However, efforts were immediately intensified to contain the flames before they reached nearby petroleum installations.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), firefighters were deployed to the scene shortly after the incident was reported.

In a brief update released on Friday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Shakiru Amodu, confirmed the ongoing operation.
He said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently curbing a fire explosion at Bono Energy Terminal on Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, by Coconut, Olodi Apapa, Lagos. Update to follow.”
Furthermore, authorities said investigations into the cause of the incident would begin after the fire had been brought under control.
As of press time, no casualties had been officially reported. In addition, the extent of damage to the fuel terminal and surrounding infrastructure had not yet been determined.
However, emergency officials remained on the ground to monitor the situation closely.
The incident has generated concern because Apapa houses several petroleum depots, fuel storage facilities, and major industrial businesses.
