The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has called on Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili to work with the Victor Attah-led peace committee to address the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
The forum emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable peace and development for the benefit of citizens.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PANDEF National Chairman Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali highlighted the integrity and expertise of the committee members.
He urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the peace panel to resolve the escalating tensions.
Igali remarked, “The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), the apex socio-political voice of the South-South peoples, calls on all stakeholders to collaborate fully with the Obong Victor Attah-led Peace and Reconciliation Committee.”
The seven-member peace committee, formed in October 2024, includes notable leaders like Obong Victor Attah, former Akwa Ibom State governor, and Senator Roland Owie, former Chief Whip of the 4th Senate.
Other members include Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, Chief (Mrs.) Stella Omu, and decorated military officers like Col. Peter Asam Mbu Ogar and Admiral John Jonah.
PANDEF described these individuals as respected figures dedicated to fostering peace and reconciliation in the region.
Meanwhile, PANDEF expressed concern over the use of social media to escalate tensions.
The forum urged stakeholders to refrain from spreading falsehoods and instead support the peace committee’s efforts.
“We urge all stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions or utterances capable of inflaming the situation and causing further avoidable escalation,” Igali stated.
PANDEF emphasized that cooperation and dialogue are essential to achieving lasting peace, not only in Rivers State but across the Niger Delta region.
The call for unity highlights the need for political stakeholders to prioritize the interests of citizens over personal conflicts.
By addressing the political crisis collaboratively, stakeholders can pave the way for stability and development in the region.
The success of the Victor Attah-led peace committee is seen as a critical step toward fostering better communication and easing tensions among leaders.
