Justice Mohammed Liman of Lagos Federal High Court had yesterday ordered the release of Senator Orji Uzoh Kalu.
The former governor of Abia state was sentenced to 12 years in prison last year December after he was found guilty of N7.1bn fraud alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and a former Director of Finance during his tenure, Ugo Udeogu.
The former governor has since been in Kuje prison before he was released earlier today.
On the 8th of May 2020 the Supreme Court nullified Kalu and Udeogo’s conviction on grounds that the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, lacked the jurisdiction to have presided over their case.
The Senator quickly filed an appeal for his release in the Federal High Court. The ruling was yesterday delivered in his favor.
