Police Arrest Eight, Recover AK-47 Rifles After Rukubi Kidnapping Attack

Residents of Rukubi community in Nasarawa State were thrown into fear after armed men reportedly invaded the area late at night and abducted two residents during a violent operation.

However, security operatives moved quickly and arrested eight suspects linked to the attack. Weapons and motorcycles believed to have been used during the operation were also recovered.

The suspects were arrested after a joint security operation involving the police, military personnel, local vigilantes, and community youths.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, explained how the incident happened.

According to him, the attack occurred on May 6, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. in Rukubi community, Doma Local Government Area.

He said the armed men invaded the community while shooting into the air, causing panic among residents.

“During the attack, the criminals stormed the residences of one Habib Usman and one Peter Ajidiku and abducted two persons identified as Ayele Jonathan and Rose Samuel to an unknown destination,” the police commissioner stated.

Furthermore, he revealed that police patrol teams responded immediately after receiving a distress report from the area.

The operation was carried out alongside the Nigerian Military, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, National Forest Security Service, and local youths.

“I am pleased to inform you that the swift response and coordinated efforts of the security operatives led to the arrest of eight suspects connected to the crime,” CP Mohammed said.

The suspects were identified as members of the same family from Rugan Alhaji Alfa in Rukubi Village.

Those arrested include Adamu Alfa, Muhammed Alfa, Shuaibu Alfa, Usman Alfa, Ali Alfa, Isa Alfa, another Adamu Alfa, and Ja’afaru Alfa.

The suspects were allegedly found with dangerous weapons during the operation. Moreover, security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles and four Bajaj motorcycles from the suspects.

In addition, two expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered from the victims’ residence.

Police also confirmed that one suspect, Muhammed Alfa, later died after sustaining serious injuries during the encounter.

“Furthermore, one of the suspects, identified as Muhammed Alfa, sustained fatal injuries during the encounter and later died while receiving treatment,” the commissioner added.

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened across Doma and nearby communities to prevent another attack.

CP Mohammed praised the joint efforts of security agencies and local residents.

“This achievement is a clear testament to the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and the unwavering commitment of security agencies to protecting lives and property across Nasarawa State,” he said.

The police boss also appreciated community youths and vigilante groups for their support during the operation.

“We urge members of the public to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies with timely and credible information,” he stated.
