The Federal Government has officially launched a fleet of locally assembled Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, marking a significant step toward sustainable transportation in Nigeria.

Some of the other members, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Management, Festus Keyamo, were present.

Speaking at the event, Keyamo highlighted the deployment of the buses as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to promote eco-friendly energy solutions while addressing the economic impact of fuel subsidy removal.

“What you see here today is a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas CNG buses for FAAN to commence passenger movement at all our airports immediately,” Keyamo stated.

He further emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s long-term climate goals and commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

The buses, produced by Lanre Shittu Motors, were described as modern, energy-efficient, and designed to provide enhanced comfort.

According to the Managing Director, Taiwo Shittu, the fleet comes in two variants—a 31-seater model for airport shuttles and a 54-seater model for city mass transit.

“We have equipped these buses with air conditioning, viewing screens, and charging ports for improved passenger convenience,” Shittu explained.

The CNG-powered buses are also fitted with accessibility features for individuals with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and ease of transportation.

Furthermore, the initiative encourages investment in local manufacturing, strengthens Nigeria’s clean energy agenda, and creates new employment opportunities.

Keyamo stressed that this launch represents more than just an infrastructure upgrade for the growth of the economy.

It is a step toward modernizing Nigeria’s transportation sector while fostering environmental responsibility among every citizen.

The buses are expected to improve mobility, boost productivity, and provide sustainable solutions for urban transportation across the country.
