Court Rules in EFCC’s Favour as Aisha Achimugu Loses ₦10bn Suit

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed businesswoman Aisha Achimugu’s fundamental rights suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The ruling gives the anti-graft agency a legal win in the dispute over a search of Achimugu’s residence.

The search reportedly led to the seizure of cars, jewellery and other items.

Justice M.S. Liman delivered the judgment on October 10, 2026, ruling that the EFCC acted within its legal powers.

The court said intelligence about alleged criminal activities provided grounds for the search.

Achimugu had approached the court to challenge the commission’s actions and protect her right to privacy.

She also asked the court to stop further harassment or searches at her home.

In suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, the businesswoman sought ₦10 billion in damages over what she described as an invasion of her privacy.

However, Justice Liman ruled that Achimugu and her legal team failed to establish sufficient grounds for the compensation claim.

The judge dismissed the damages demand and said the EFCC could continue performing its lawful duties.

The court also found that the case lacked merit, describing it as frivolous and filed in bad faith.

The Aisha Achimugu EFCC suit centred on whether the commission had acted lawfully during the search and seizure operation.

The ruling means the court rejected her request for relief over the agency’s actions.

Reacting to the judgment, EFCC counsel Emenike Mgbemele welcomed the decision.

He said the ruling served the interest of justice and argued that the suit had attempted to waste the court’s time.
