Tension gripped Ilesa, Osun State, on Tuesday after suspected political thugs attacked APC supporters.
The incident reportedly happened early Tuesday near Igbogi, shortly before the party’s final rally.
Two people were killed, while two others sustained critical injuries during the reported shooting.
The APC supporters had gathered at the area before the rally scheduled to begin at 8am.
A source identified as Sola said the attackers arrived around 7:30am and opened fire.
“We were preparing for our final rally today and our leaders said we should converge at Igbogi for take-off, which is scheduled for 8am.
“At 7:30am, the thugs stormed the venue and were shooting sporadically, leaving four people dead. It is so unfortunate. This is coming barely three days after Amotekun shot some members,” he said.
However, the APC Campaign Council gave a different account of the casualties.
Its Media Head, Oluremi Omowaiye, confirmed that four supporters were shot.
“Four of our supporters were shot, two of them are dead while two others are in critical condition. The woman leader of our party in Ilesa is part of the victims and is currently gasping for breath at Wesley Guild Hospital,” he said.
The attack has raised concerns over security ahead of the political rally in the area.
The Ilesa APC supporters attack also comes days after another security incident reportedly involving Amotekun operatives.
The exact circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s shooting remain unclear.
Police authorities were yet to provide details on the identities of the attackers or their motive.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said he would make findings.
He also promised to provide further details after receiving information on the Ilesa APC supporters attack.
