A stunning case has emerged from Abuja after a woman was allegedly found chained inside a room where she had reportedly been held for four years.
The disturbing discovery was made in the Mpape area of Maitama Extension, Abuja. According to eyewitness accounts, the woman was allegedly locked away following a dispute over a cement business she reportedly started with her brother.
According to witnesses, the man was fetching water near the area when he became concerned by unusual noises. Consequently, he alerted other members of the community.
After investigating the source of the sounds, residents reportedly forced their way into the room. To their shock, they allegedly found the woman chained inside and living in poor conditions.
She was immediately rescued and taken for medical treatment. Furthermore, eyewitnesses claimed she was unable to walk properly after spending years in confinement.
According to accounts shared by residents, the woman’s brother allegedly declared her mentally unstable following a disagreement over ownership and profits from a cement business.
The allegation remains under investigation. However, witnesses claimed the woman was isolated to prevent her from claiming her share of the business.
The incident has generated widespread reactions on social media. In addition, many Nigerians have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case.
One eyewitness who shared details of the incident online wrote:
“This happened in MPAPE ABUJA around my area, please i have videos, so they dont sweep her case under the rug and justice should be served.”
The eyewitness further alleged that the woman’s daughter disappeared during the period of confinement.
Moreover, the woman reportedly accused her brother of being responsible for the child’s disappearance.
The witness also claimed the child may have been used for ritual purposes. However, there is currently no evidence to support the allegation.
