Shehu Sani Fires Back at Kemi Badenoch Over Nigeria Remarks

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has criticised UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch over her comments about Nigeria.

He warned that speaking negatively about one’s ancestral homeland may not guarantee acceptance in another country.

Sani shared his views in a post on X, questioning Badenoch’s efforts to establish her British identity.

He also suggested that people may continue to remind her of her Nigerian roots despite her efforts.

“Kemi is fighting hard to be identified as British and the Whites keeps reminding her of her roots and where she belongs,” he wrote.

The former lawmaker argued that repeatedly portraying one’s country of origin negatively would not necessarily win acceptance from Western audiences.

He said people should not assume that criticising their ancestral homeland would make them more accepted abroad.

Sani’s comments focused on identity, belonging and how others may view people with roots in another country.

“This is a message to all; you can’t continuously tell the World that your ancestral homeland is full of evil and think that that will make you acceptable to the World,” Sani said.

The remarks have brought renewed attention to the public debate surrounding Badenoch’s comments about Nigeria and her British identity.

While Sani expressed his criticism, his post reflects his personal view of the issue.
