A court ruling has rocked Egypt’s entertainment world as TV presenter Sarah Khalifa has been sentenced to death by hanging.
The ruling came on Saturday, September 5, 2026, eleven co-defendants received the same harsh punishment alongside her.
This Sarah Khalifa death sentence stems from a major drug trafficking case, she was among 28 people accused of running a dangerous smuggling ring.
According to prosecutors, the group imported raw materials hidden in cosmetic boxes these materials were reportedly used to manufacture synthetic cannabinoids across Egypt.
Not everyone in the case received the same fate. Seven defendants were acquitted, while nine others got life sentences instead.
Officials say two network leaders operated the scheme from overseas, Khalifa allegedly acted as the bridge between them and local members.
She reportedly helped fund part of the illegal operation too while her brother, Mohamed, also received a death sentence for his alleged role.
Mohamed allegedly handled manufacturing and testing of the drugs.
Authorities seized 750 kilograms of materials, along with unlicensed firearms, during the investigation.
However, Egypt remains known for issuing some of the highest numbers of death sentences worldwide.
Moreover, Khalifa’s attorney confirmed plans to appeal the ruling, he made it clear that the legal battle is far from over.
This isn’t Khalifa’s only legal trouble this year, in a separate case, she was sentenced to three years for assault.
That case involved a video found on her phone, it reportedly showed her driver stripped and beaten inside her home.
