Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has ordered the arrest of health workers accused of selling hospital equipment.
The equipment was reportedly donated to a health facility in Umaisha Development Area by a state lawmaker.
Sule described the alleged act as serious corruption and an unfair act against sick residents.
He gave the order during the swearing-in of new commissioners and other government officials in Lafia.
The governor directed Health Commissioner Dr Gaza Gwamna to investigate the matter.
He also ordered that anyone found responsible should face punishment under the law.
Sule said selling equipment meant for patients shows a lack of concern for people needing medical care.
The governor also used the event to announce major changes to his administration.
Four new ministries have been created as part of the changes in the Nasarawa State Government.
They include the Ministries of Tertiary and Technical Education, Livestock Development and Budget and Economic Planning.
A Ministry of NGOs and Disaster Management was also created.
Muhammad Nagogo will head Tertiary and Technical Education, while Umar Tunga takes charge of Livestock Development.
Ahmed Mohammed was assigned Budget and Economic Planning, while Mohammed Baba will lead NGOs and Disaster Management.
Other commissioners were assigned portfolios covering agriculture, information, youth, lands and women affairs.
Yakubu Kwanta was also moved from Youth and Sports Development to Works, Infrastructure and Housing.
The governor urged the new officials to support his administration’s policies and deliver better services.
The Nasarawa health workers investigation is expected to determine how the hospital equipment was allegedly sold.
