President Bola Tinubu has ordered an urgent rescue operation following the recent mass abduction in Niger State.
The president directed security agencies to work together and rescue victims still held by their abductors.
The order followed reports of abductions and killings that have caused fear among residents and families.
Tinubu instructed the armed forces, police, Department of State Services and intelligence agencies to act immediately.
He also directed the Service Chiefs to provide regular updates until every abducted person is accounted for.
In a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu condemned the attack and vowed that those responsible would face justice.
“Those who carried out this cowardly attack on defenceless Nigerians are enemies of peace and enemies of humanity, who will not go scot-free.”
The president also expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones during the attack.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who were killed in this barbaric assault and pray that Almighty God grant them eternal rest, and grant their loved ones the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
Tinubu assured affected families that the government would continue efforts to bring their relatives home safely.
“You are not alone. The entire nation shares your anguish. We will not rest until your sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are brought back safely to you,” he said.
The president further warned that criminal groups would not intimidate the country.
“Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life.”
Tinubu also promised federal support for Niger State as security agencies intensify their search.
The Niger State abduction has renewed concerns about security and the safety of communities across the state.
