The father of Nigerian socialite Jowizaza has regained his freedom after days in the hands of suspected kidnappers.
Chief J. J. Ezeokafor was abducted alongside a Rev. Sister in Ifite-Awka, Anambra State.
The victims were reportedly taken early Tuesday, August 4, after Ezeokafor left his home for a prayer ground in Awka.
The development had raised concern as reports claimed the kidnappers increased their ransom demand from ₦700 million to ₦1.5 billion.
However, the Anambra State Police Command has now confirmed that both victims are safe and back with their families.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said authorities are working to understand how the victims regained their freedom.
The command is also seeking information that could help investigators identify those behind the Anambra kidnapping.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Nanna Oji Ama, welcomed the safe return of the victims.
He also ordered stronger intelligence operations and a wider search for those responsible. The ongoing operation involves several security agencies working together across the state.
These include the Police, Department of State Services, military, NSCDC and Agunechemba Security Operatives.
Other relevant security agencies are also involved in the effort to track the suspects.
The latest development brings relief to the families following days of uncertainty.
However, investigations into the Anambra kidnapping remain ongoing as security agencies work to establish the circumstances surrounding their release.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about whether any ransom was paid.
The police have also not revealed the identities of those suspected to be behind the abduction.
