Passengers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, faced confusion on Tuesday morning after aviation workers began industrial action.
Chaos reportedly broke out as passengers struggled to get updates about flights and the duration of the action.
Travellers were initially stopped from entering the terminal before officials later allowed them inside. However, uncertainty continued over affected flights and alternative arrangements.
One passenger, Emeka “Silencer” Okoli, was travelling to Enugu for the annual CIC Enugu Convention.
He described the situation as chaotic and criticised the conditions inside the terminal.
“Passengers were locked out of the terminal, and families travelling with children were left disappointed, among others,” he said.
Okoli said passengers still lacked clear information after the terminal was reopened.
He questioned which workers were involved and when normal airport operations would resume.
The passenger also complained about overcrowding and poor ventilation inside the terminal.
“Peace Transport Park is better than what we are currently facing at the airport. Passengers are suffocating from congestion. It’s either the ACs are not working or the crowd is simply too much for the ACs. This is so sad. Very terrible conditions,” he lamented.
Affected travellers are now calling for urgent action from aviation authorities and airlines.
They also want clear updates on cancelled flights, rescheduling and arrangements for stranded passengers.
The disruption has renewed concerns about the impact of industrial disputes on Nigeria’s aviation sector.
