A leadership shake-up has emerged within the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, following a decision by the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a significant move, Kanu dissolved the third administration of IPOB’s Directorate of State, known as the DoS.
According to a statement released from Langerfeld, Germany, United States-based Mazi Chris Nwaogu has been appointed as the new Head of the Directorate of State.
The appointment places him in charge of the daily administration and coordination of the group’s activities. Furthermore, he will oversee operational matters under Kanu’s leadership and directives.
The announcement marks one of the most notable internal changes within the organisation in recent years. Therefore, many supporters are closely watching how the new administration will shape the movement’s future.
The IPOB leadership restructuring was said to have followed a review of the outgoing administration’s performance during a challenging period.
According to the statement, concerns were raised over member welfare, communication gaps, internal disagreements, and organisational unity.
However, the group stressed that the leadership change should not be viewed as punishment.
“The dissolution of the third administration is ultimately not an act of vengeance but an act of organisational renewal,” the statement said.
The Directorate of State was established in 2012 as the administrative arm of IPOB. Since then, several leaders have overseen its affairs.
Previous administrations were headed by Dr Justin Akujieze, Mazi Uchenna Asiegbu, and Chika Edoziem, who led the third administration from 2017.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed leadership team has been tasked with rebuilding confidence within the organisation.
In addition, members of the new administration are expected to strengthen internal communication and improve coordination across chapters worldwide.
The group also revealed plans to place greater attention on the welfare of members and organisational growth.
As part of the restructuring process, an Elders Advisory Council has been established.
According to IPOB, the council will serve as a strategic bridge between Kanu and the Directorate of State.
Several appointments were also announced during the reorganisation.

Mazi Solomon Egbo was named Deputy Head of the Directorate of State. Nwada Ogwu Nnennaya Anya I. was appointed Head of Finance and Budget Planning.
Dr Chukwudi Nwogwugwu will oversee Medical and Welfare Planning. Barrister Ikechukwu Onuoha was named Head of Media.
Furthermore, Comrade Emma Powerful retained his role as Spokesperson and Media and Publicity Secretary.
Representatives were also appointed for Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, coordinators were named for Germany, Italy, and Switzerland as part of efforts to improve global coordination.
The statement further directed officers, coordinators, and unit heads to establish contact with the group’s headquarters in Germany.
In another development, previously suspended or expelled officers were reinstated pending further administrative review.
The organisation urged members to remain focused and united during the transition period.
“The day-to-day affairs of the Indigenous People of Biafra shall henceforth be piloted by Mazi Chris Nwa?g? and his team in accordance with the directives and vision of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement added.
