A major breakthrough have emerged in one of the world’s most closely watched conflicts.
The United States and Iran have announced an agreement aimed at ending months of fighting and reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Moreover, the development has raised hopes of lasting peace across the Middle East and renewed stability in global energy markets.
The announcement came from U.S. President Donald Trump and was later echoed by Iranian officials and international leaders.
If fully implemented, the US – Iran Peace Deal could mark a turning point in a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and disrupted global oil supplies.
President Trump confirmed the breakthrough in a post on Truth Social.
He wrote:
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete.”
Trump added:
“Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”
Minutes earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced that an agreement had been reached.
According to him:
“Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED.”
He further stated:
“Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”
Meanwhile, a formal signing ceremony is expected to take place in Switzerland on Friday.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council also confirmed the agreement through state-linked media outlets.
According to Iranian authorities, military operations are expected to cease immediately once the agreement takes effect.
However, officials noted that some U.S. commitments must first be fulfilled before negotiations on a final settlement can begin.
Furthermore, details of the proposed memorandum suggest several key areas will be addressed.
These include sanctions relief, reconstruction efforts, maritime access, and discussions related to Iran’s nuclear activities.
Reports indicate that Iran will reaffirm its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons under international agreements.
In addition, some financial restrictions could be eased if negotiations progress successfully.
Shortly after the announcement, global oil prices dropped sharply as investors reacted positively to the news.
U.S. crude oil prices fell by more than four percent. Brent crude also recorded notable losses during early trading.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
Before the conflict began, nearly one-fifth of global oil supplies moved through the strategic waterway.
Therefore, its reopening is being viewed as a major boost for international trade and energy security.
Meanwhile, questions remain about how regional players will respond. Israeli officials have yet to provide detailed comments regarding the agreement.
However, security concerns remain after recent military actions involving Lebanon and other areas.
World leaders have largely welcomed the development. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the agreement as an opportunity for peace and stability.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also praised both countries for reaching what he called a significant step toward ending the conflict.
For now, hopes are rising that diplomacy may finally succeed where months of warfare failed.
