A strong assurance of safety and professionalism was given by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election.
This assurance was delivered during the Election Stakeholders’ Meeting and Peace Accord signing held in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
The meeting brought together INEC officials, political parties, security agencies, traditional rulers, civil society groups, and international observers.
Furthermore, the police chief stated that operational readiness had been completed across all local government areas.
According to Disu, the Nigeria Police Force will remain neutral and professional throughout the electoral process.
He reaffirmed that security agencies working under ICCES had finalized detailed deployment strategies.
The security plan includes full coverage of 16 local government areas, 154 wards, and over 2,400 polling units.
Personnel and operational equipment have been strategically positioned to protect voters, election officials, observers, and other stakeholders.
Moreover, the police leadership stressed that no form of intimidation or disruption would be tolerated during the election.

The Peace Accord signing was supported by the Independent National Electoral Commission and the National Peace Committee.
The committee is led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), who was commended for his role in promoting democratic stability.
In addition, the IGP praised INEC and the Peace Committee for strengthening trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.
He described their efforts as essential for reducing tension and encouraging peaceful political participation.
Meanwhile, political actors were urged to respect the agreement signed during the meeting.
Disu encouraged residents of Ekiti State to come out and vote without fear or intimidation.
He assured the public that adequate security would be provided before, during, and after the election period.
Therefore, citizens were advised to exercise their constitutional rights peacefully and responsibly.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting democratic values and maintaining law and order nationwide.
Furthermore, the Force Public Relations Office confirmed that preparations were complete for a smooth electoral process.
