Tegbe Rejects Viral Report Claiming He Vowed To End Nigeria’s Power Crisis in 90 Days

Nigeria’s Minister-designate for Power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has moved to clear the air after reports claimed he promised to repair Nigeria’s troubled electricity grid within three months.

The clarification came after widespread reactions to reports from his Senate screening, where many believed the incoming minister guaranteed an immediate solution to the country’s long-running power crisis.

However, Tegbe has now denied making such a promise, insisting that the reports were false and misleading.

In a statement released through his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, the minister-designate explained that no exact timeline had been fixed for solving the country’s electricity problems.

According to the statement, Tegbe only assured lawmakers that efforts to stabilise the national grid would begin within his first 100 days in office.

Meanwhile, he stressed that broader reforms across the power sector would require more time, technical reviews, and consultations with key stakeholders.

The statement followed several online reports suggesting Tegbe promised to completely fix Nigeria’s national grid within three months.

However, the minister-designate maintained that the reports did not correctly reflect his comments during the Senate screening held on May 6, 2026.

According to the statement, timelines for major reforms are still being developed through consultations and technical assessments.

Furthermore, Tegbe reportedly believes that realistic planning is necessary before making promises on complex national infrastructure issues.

Nigeria has struggled with electricity shortages for decades despite several government interventions, many homes and businesses still rely heavily on generators due to unstable electricity supply.

During his Senate screening, Tegbe spoke about improving electricity generation, strengthening the national grid, however, he reportedly avoided giving fixed deadlines for fully resolving the challenges.
