Ambode Backs Hamzat as APC Candidate, Sets 3 Million Vote Target for Tinubu

A fresh political signal has emerged in Lagos as former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode publicly backed Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate.

The development was announced in a statement released on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Ambode’s message highlighted party unity and long-term political strategy.

“I join my fellow members of the All Progressives Congress to congratulate my brother and friend, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the Consensus Governorship Candidate of our great party, the APC.”

Moreover, Ambode stressed that Hamzat’s emergence did not happen by chance. According to him, it followed deliberate engagement with party leaders and members across different levels.

“Your deliberate and purposeful consultations with the Party hierarchy and all members of the Party have demonstrated you are a true Party man committed to the Party’s ideals and values of Unity and Progress.”

“Your adoption as our Party’s consensus candidate is a reflection of your loyalty, hardwork and dedication to the party for over two decades.”

Meanwhile, attention was also directed toward the national political landscape. Ambode reaffirmed his strong support for President Tinubu’s leadership and re-election bid.

“I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our Leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

Furthermore, he expressed confidence in the president’s long-term vision for Nigeria.

“I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr. President.”

“We are ready to roll up our sleeves and work to deliver landslide victories for our Party at both the State and Federal levels.”

In addition, he set a clear target for Lagos voters. He stated that the party should aim to deliver at least three million votes for the president.

“As Lagos APC, our mission should be to deliver at least 3 million votes for Mr. President.”

Meanwhile, he also emphasized the importance of retaining legislative seats. According to him, all party-nominated candidates should be returned to the National Assembly.

Therefore, the statement signals a coordinated political effort ahead of the elections.
