An unusual and deeply troubling scene unfolded at a local bank in India after an elderly man arrived with human remains to prove a claim.

The incident occurred in Odisha, where a man took drastic action after repeated failed attempts to withdraw money.

According to reports, the man, identified as Jitu Munda, had visited a bank branch to access funds belonging to his late sister. She had passed away earlier in the year, and he sought to withdraw about Rs 20,000 from her account.

Meanwhile, bank officials declined his request due to missing documents required for processing such claims. He was reportedly asked to provide proper proof and follow legal procedures.

Frustrated by the situation, the man decided to take an extreme step. He exhumed his sister’s remains and brought them to the bank as evidence of her death.

“I told them she had died, but they did not listen. They kept saying, bring the account holder to withdraw the money. Out of frustration, I dug the grave and brought her skeleton as proof that she is no more,” he said.

Moreover, the act caused panic and confusion within the bank premises. Authorities were immediately alerted, and the police stepped in to handle the situation.

A police official explained that the issue stemmed from a lack of understanding of the process. The man, described as having limited education, reportedly struggled to grasp the documentation required.

“Jeetu is an illiterate tribal man. He does not understand what a legal heir or nominee means. The bank officials failed to properly explain the procedure for accessing funds belonging to a deceased person,” the officer said.

Furthermore, it was revealed that the nominee listed on the account had also died. This complication made the situation more difficult and added to the confusion.

However, following intervention by authorities, the situation was brought under control. The remains were returned and properly reburied under supervision.
