Breaking: Delta CP Condemns Suspect’s Shooting, Orders Officer to Face Trial at Force Headquarters

A tense situation has unfolded in Delta State after a 28-year-old man, Mene Ogidi, was fatally shot during a police operation in Effurun.

The incident has drawn strong reactions, with top police authorities now stepping in. “The IGP Olatunji Disu has directed the AIG ZONE 5 Benin to take necessary action and report back on the incident”.

The development has further heightened public attention, as authorities move to ensure accountability.

However, officials say immediate steps have been taken to address the situation. The police leadership has also assured the public that due process will be followed.

According to official reports, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended while attempting to send a parcel believed to contain a firearm.

Moreover, police sources stated that the parcel allegedly contained a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

ASP Nuhu Usman, who led the team, allegedly discharged his weapon in violation of established police procedures.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, strongly condemned the act. He described it as a clear breach of professional standards and due process.

Following the development, the officer was immediately arrested and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja. Meanwhile, he is expected to face the Force Disciplinary Committee for further action.

CP Oyeniyi also extended condolences to the family of Mene Ogidi. He assured them that justice would be pursued diligently and transparently.

However, the situation escalated further after a disturbing video surfaced online.

In the clip, the victim was seen pleading repeatedly for his life. “Officers, abeg,” the man pleaded. “I’ll tell you everything. It was my friend who deceived me.”

Moreover, he continued to provide information while begging for mercy. “He’s at Sapele. I’ll take you to him,” he said during the exchange.

Despite this, one of the armed men fired at his leg. As the victim cried out again, a second shot was fired toward his head.

Activist Harrison Gwamnishu also reacted to the footage. He described it as “disturbing,” adding, “This is live execution carried out by some armed men alleged to be Police officers attached to Effurun Area Command, Delta State Command.”

Furthermore, residents have been assured that all necessary steps are being taken, the outcome of the investigation is expected to determine the next line of action.
