Six Arrested as Police Uncover Bomb-Making Factory in Ondo

A planned attack in Akure has now been disrupted, following a swift intelligence-led operation that led to multiple arrests.

According to authorities, a suspected bomb plot in Ondo was uncovered after security agents raided a building in Akure.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the operation was carried out after credible intelligence was received. It was revealed that the suspects had already begun preparations for possible attacks.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed that the suspects were arrested on April 16, 2026. The individuals include Adekunle Prosper (56), Ojo Olumide (39), Tope Kolawole (40), Ahmed Salihu (40), Bolaji Adebowale (46), and Gbadebo Abidemi (43). Their arrest, however, came just days after their hideout was identified.

Investigations showed that the suspects had rented a house in the Oke-Odu area of Akure. The property was reportedly used as a base for producing Improvised Explosive Devices. Furthermore, the operation was said to have been carefully planned to avoid suspicion.

During the raid, several items were recovered and later documented as evidence. These include 217 bottles of chemicals believed to be used for making bombs. In addition, sacks of sugar were found, alongside tools such as wires, knives, and pliers.

Moreover, communication devices including 17 mobile phones and two laptops were seized. Two motorcycles and a cash sum of N187,000 were also recovered from the scene.

Police sources revealed that maps of potential targets had already been prepared by the suspects. These targets reportedly included government buildings in Ondo State. In addition, other key locations across Nigeria were also listed.

However, authorities have not disclosed the full extent of the planned attacks. Meanwhile, investigations are still ongoing to determine if more individuals are involved.

Speaking on the development, CP Lawal urged landlords to be more cautious when renting out properties. He stressed the need for proper background checks before accepting tenants. According to him, this simple step could prevent serious crimes.

He also emphasized that refusing to rent to suspicious individuals is a civic duty. Furthermore, he noted that community awareness plays a key role in preventing security threats.
