King Charles III is set to address a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress during his upcoming visit to the United States.
The rare moment will place him among a very small group of British monarchs. Moreover, he will become only the second sovereign to deliver such an address, following Queen Elizabeth II in 1991.
The visit is coming at a period of visible strain in the long-standing U.S.-UK relationship.
In recent weeks, tensions have risen between Washington and London. President Donald Trump has openly criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government.
The criticism focused on what was described as limited British support for U.S. military actions involving Iran.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers in the United Kingdom questioned the timing of the royal trip. However, the Palace confirmed the visit would go ahead as planned.

According to officials, the goal is to reinforce long-standing ties. These include economic, cultural, and security partnerships between both nations.
Importantly, the monarch is expected to remain neutral. As a constitutional figure, King Charles does not engage in political disputes.
Upon arrival in Washington, D.C., the King and Queen will be formally received. A private meeting with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump has been scheduled.
Furthermore, a ceremonial welcome and military review will be held. These events are designed to reflect mutual respect and shared history.
A state dinner is also expected to take place. In addition, a ceremony honouring fallen soldiers has been included in the itinerary.
These activities aim to highlight the deep military connection between both countries..
Officials noted that the visit will showcase the “breadth of the economic, security, and cultural relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Following events in Washington, the royal couple will travel to New York. There, they are expected to visit the 9/11 memorial.
In addition, King Charles will engage with youth organisations. These groups focus on sustainable farming and tackling food insecurity.
The visit will then move to Virginia. Meanwhile, environmental issues will take centre stage during this leg of the trip.
The King, known for his environmental advocacy, will meet indigenous communities. He will also interact with conservation groups working on local projects.
After completing engagements in the United States, the royal party will head to Bermuda. This two-day visit will continue efforts to strengthen ties within British territories.
